2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Faith Academy finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Faith Academy finished sixth in Class 5A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. Faith Academy was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.6 points a game. Faith Academy struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.3 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record. Since 2010, the Faith Academy football program has struggled with a record of 18-51. Over the past 25 seasons, Faith Academy has managed to compile a record of 115-156. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A and 261st in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2008. Lance Lawley leaves Faith Academy after only one season for personal reasons. His only team finished with a 3-7 record. Athletic director Woodie Head announced that defensive coordinator Jeff Estes has been promoted to interim head coach and will remain in that position at least through the 2017 season. The Faith Academy Rams will play in Class 5A region one during the 2017 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Rams if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. The Rams open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, September 1 at Freedom Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 8-5 and in third place in Class 3A region one. The Admirals lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 55-21. Faith Academy and Bayside Academy have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Rams have a 2-4-0 record against the Admirals. They last met in 2016 with Bayside Academy winning by a score of 35-13. College prospects include: James Harris (6-0, 210) inside linebacker, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
